Dotman, born Olatunji Oladotun Alade, hails from Abeokuta in Ogun State, Nigeria. He grew up in a modest family and showed a passion for music from a young age, often mimicking popular Nigerian artists and writing lyrics while still in school.
He pursued higher education at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where he studied Physics Education. Despite the demands of academics, Dotman continued to hone his musical talents and participate in talent competitions and campus performances.
Dotman's rise to fame began after winning a rap competition organized by Airtel in 2013, which gave him early recognition. His breakthrough came in 2016 with the release of “Akube”, a smash hit that dominated radio stations and clubs across Nigeria.
"Akube" was praised for its catchy hook and fusion of Afropop with street vibes, establishing Dotman as a fresh voice in Nigeria’s music scene.
Dotman’s sound blends Afrobeat, Afropop, and street-hop, often laced with storytelling rooted in real-life experiences. He cites artists like King Sunny Ade, 9ice, Da Grin, and Akon as early influences on his style.
His lyrics often touch on themes such as love, hustle, resilience, and social issues—delivered in Yoruba, English, and Pidgin.
